Our local parks are a haven for lovers of the
outdoors. Colorado Bend State Park is obviously the primary attraction. It
features scenic settings along the banks of the Colorado River. Primitive
camping, hiking trails, and picnic facilities are among the amenities. There is
also fantastic fishing in the San Saba River with a fish cleaning site. Gorman
Falls, located within the park, can be visited by guided tour. Participants
caravan from the park headquarters to the Gorman area and hike over the
beautiful Hill Country terrain to the falls.
Mill Pond Park features a small spring-fed lake,
waterfalls, a swimming pool and a number of picnic sites. Other facilities
include baseball fields, a pavilion, tennis courts and playground equipment. RV
hookups are also available. Risien Park is bordered on one
side by the San Saba
River and offers picnic facilities,
a playground, a pavilion, volleyball courts
and an amphitheater - all beneath large, shady pecan trees.
It's about 35 miles to Lake Buchanan, an
expansive
body of water which boasts an abundance of water recreation
opportunities. Fishing, sailing, boating
and more are popular down on the lake. |
